Ikigai. Ick-ee-guy: Your reason for being. A sense of meaning and purpose in life.

Of all the people in the world, the Japanese are the most likely to reach the ripe old age of 100. Could the concept of ikigai be the secret of a long and happy life?

There’s no direct translation of ikigai. It’s made up of 2 parts – iki meaning life or alive, and kai meaning an effect, fruit, worth or use. It’s often interpreted as ‘your life purpose’. Ikigai is about living a life full of energy and motivation, living with a sense of accomplishment and finding balance in the daily routine of your life.

The Japanese believe that it’s the sum of small joys that builds a fulfilling life. The key is finding a sense of harmony between head and heart to help you find joy and satisfaction, even in everyday actions.

When you discover your own ikigai, then you create an environment in which you can blossom and thrive.
