Since 1886, caba has been supporting members of the ICAEW community and their families through life’s challenges. What began when accountants came together to help a junior clerk facing terminal illness has grown into a charity that continues to support the profession today.
The Chartered Accountants’ Benevolent Association was founded on the principle that members of the accountancy profession would support each other in times of need. Among its early members were some familiar names - Deloitte, Cooper and Waterhouse. They believed anyone in the accounting community who faced financial difficulty or struggles with their health, should have somewhere to turn.
For 140 years, caba has been supporting members of the ICAEW community as they cope with challenges in everyday life. Stressful jobs, the rising cost of living and an ageing population are all shaping the way we live today.
That’s why caba is always evolving, adapting the services we provide to keep pace with a changing world and the needs of the profession. We offer a huge range or support, from counselling and financial grants to neurodiversity and help with care.
If the day comes when you or someone you know needs caring one-to-one support, practical advice or helpful online resources, we’ll be there.
If you are a past or present member of the ICAEW, or an ACA student experiencing financial, mental or physical health challenges, I wanted you to know that my colleagues are ready to support you and your dependants.
I’m proud that our free and confidential services make a meaningful difference to thousands of people facing difficult times.
At caba, we listen with empathy and advise without judgement, so if you, or someone you know, might benefit from our support, please get in touch.
