W.W. Deloitte caba president 1886-1898
Since 1886, caba has been supporting members of the ICAEW community and their families. What began when accountants came together to help a junior clerk facing terminal illness has grown into a charity that continues to support the profession today.
The Chartered Accountants’ Benevolent Association was founded on the principle that members of the accountancy profession would support each other in times of need. Among its early members were some familiar names - Deloitte, Cooper and Waterhouse. They believed anyone in the accounting community who faced financial difficulty or struggles with their health, should have somewhere to turn.
For 140 years, caba has been supporting members of the ICAEW community as they cope with challenges in everyday life. Stressful jobs, the rising cost of living and an ageing population are all shaping the way we live today.
That’s why at caba we’re always evolving, adapting the services we provide to keep pace with a changing world and the needs of the profession. We offer a huge range or support, from counselling and financial grants to neurodiversity and help with care.
If the day comes when you or someone you know needs caring one-to-one support, practical advice or helpful online resources, we’ll be there.
Every year, thousands of people across the ICAEW community turn to caba during difficult times. Support from caba is always confidential, compassionate and free of charge.
Financial grants and donations totalling more than £20m given
£17m spent on counselling, career coaching, learning and advice
Over 40,000 enquiries
10,000 people supported with financial grants
Provided access to counselling for over 8,000 people
For 140 years, caba has been there for members of the ICAEW community when life becomes difficult. Today, we are privileged to continue that tradition of support.
Behind every enquiry is a person navigating a challenge. Our role is to listen carefully, understand what someone is going through, and provide support that makes a meaningful difference. Whether someone is facing financial hardship, health challenges or a period of uncertainty, they should know they do not have to face it alone.
I feel incredibly proud to play a part in caba’s story, and to act as a steward of this remarkable charity, even if only for a short chapter in its long history
