Become a Trustee

*This is a voluntary position - reasonable expenses reimbursed*

As an occupational charity, we help the ICAEW community thrive by equipping individuals with the practical, emotional, or financial tools to manage whatever’s in front of them, from everyday situations to exceptional life-changing circumstances.

We want everyone in our community to thrive, but sometimes things get in the way and they’re too overwhelming to handle. We strive to be there for our beneficiaries, whether they’re an ACA student, an existing or former ICAEW member or a close family dependent.

We do this through offering innovative solutions and supporting our membership in all aspects of their wellbeing be it physical, mental or financial and also offer relationship, carer and careers support.

role specification

caba’s Board of Trustees currently comprises 10 members.  They include experienced individuals with high-level expertise in a variety of roles within the finance industry, including audit and assurance, investments, operational risk and tax as well as business development and equality, diversity and inclusion.

The overarching purpose of the Board of Trustees is to ensure that caba applies the relevant resources to deliver its charitable objects, complies with relevant laws and regulations, safeguards its assets and is well run.  The focus of the trustees is to assist in guiding the long-term direction of the charity, helping it to comply with its Articles of Association.

Following on from a recent governance review, we’re looking for several trustees to join our board.  We’d particularly welcome applications from those with experience in:

  • Long-term investments and investment strategy
  • Audit and risk
  • Grant-giving or marketing
  • HR and culture

We welcome candidates with experience in any of these fields, those with wider charity experience, or who wish to consider the role as part of their wider career development.

  • Investment Committee
  • Service Users, Support & Engagement Committee
  • Finance, Audit & Risk Committee

With the exception of Investment Committee which meets in London and the strategy away day (which is held offsite at a different venue each year), the majority of meetings are held at our offices in Rugby and are often run via a hybrid model.
