“6 weeks after arriving in Melbourne I secured my first contract position, and I believe that the career coaching I received through CABA was a major contributor to my success.”

Last year, for a number of personal reasons, I moved from Sydney to Melbourne. As a result of this I started to look for new employment opportunities in Melbourne. Through various ICAEW channels I became aware of CABA and the support they offer to ICAEW members and their families worldwide.

I submitted an email enquiry through the CABA website. I got a reply from one of CABA’s support officers the very next day and they scheduled a phone call with me to discuss how CABA could support me in my career transition. We talked through my situation and they explained that CABA might be able to provide me with career coaching sessions in Australia. The Support Officer also explained that I should expect a decision within the next few days.

As promised, I soon received an email from CABA. They approved face-to-face career coaching sessions for me which would take place in Melbourne and explained that it would all be paid for by CABA. I was placed in their fast track programme so I could start my sessions as soon as I arrived in Melbourne. It was very simple to organise.

I have now completed the career coaching programme, which included support to re-work my resume and LinkedIn profile, various workshops on using social media in my job search, networking and on applying for jobs in the government and the not-for-profit sector. We also video-recorded a mock interview that was very useful for me to watch and learn from.

6 weeks after arriving in Melbourne I secured my first contract position, and I believe that the career coaching I received through CABA was a major contributor to my success.

The support I got from CABA and the local career coaching company was really valuable. They gave really good advice and guidance, and honest feedback through this journey. I would recommend to all ICAEW members or past members to become familiar with CABA’s various support offerings. I think people should also know that their services are not only available to ICAEW members, but to their spouses, partners and children as well.
