We’ve been supporting ICAEW members since 1886 and although many things may have changed over those 130 years, one thing that remains the same is that our philosophy and activities continue to be guided by our commitment to the principle of chartered accountants supporting one another.
The CABA Story details our history. What began with a £50 donation to a luckless clerk in 1885, to the 23 ICAEW councilmen who gathered at ICAEW’s Throgmorton Street offices on 24 March, 1886 to constitute Chartered Accountants’ Benevolent Association.
Through 6 monarchs, 2 world wars, 34 governments and a 130-fold expansion in ICAEW membership, CABA has not faltered in its support for those who have fallen on hard times. As our members' needs have evolved, so has our support. And after 130 years we are now able to offer support to a global community of over 500,000 people. This is our story.
