Course details
The course helps managers to:
• Understand what stress is
• Recognise the signs and symptoms of stress in others
• Think through the typical stress inducers (causes of stress), particularly focused on work stress inducers
• Highlight the potential problems caused by stress
• Explore the best management approaches to managing employees with stress related illnesses
• Reflect on how to recognise their own signs and symptoms of stress
• Discuss the negative coping strategies often used to manage stress
• Look at some positive coping strategies that can be used to build resilience to stress
• Apply these positive coping strategies to themselves and their employees
The course will include a mix of learning scenarios, allowing delegates to discuss their own experiences and discuss practical case studies.
The objectives of this course are to:
• Provide managers with the tools and resources to manage and support staff
• Improve awareness of the signs and symptoms of emotional distress
• Enable managers to discuss sensitive issues with staff
• Increase their understanding of what affects their mental and physical wellbeing and their team’s physical and mental wellbeing
• Learn strategies to improve their own wellbeing
• Encourage positive thinking

If left unchecked stress can have a detrimental effect on your health and wellbeing and can adversely affect those who are close to you.
CABA provides subsidised Stress Management and Wellbeing training to Chartered Accountants to help ICAEW members address this growing problem.
The course will explore what stress is, and the difference between pressure and stress.
We will look at:
• The performance curve – the effect of stress on performance
• Identifying individual causes of stress (work and home)
• Identifying burnout
We will then turn to ways of dealing with stress:
• What can be done in the workplace to reduce stress? Identify ways to deal with the causes of stress
• Thinking strategies – Avoid, Reframe, Cope
• Building resilience to stress – a healthy body deals better with stress
• We will look at nutrition, diet, exercise and positive coping mechanisms
• Relaxation and breathing techniques
• Emotional State Management
• The performance cycle
