CABA'S DATA SECURITY POLICY

Chartered Accountants' Benevolent Association - CABA - is committed to preserving the privacy of all visitors to our website and users of our services.  This is a statement of our policy and procedures.  For the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998, CABA is the data controller.

By using this website and filling in an online form, you consent to the collection, use and transfer of your information under the terms of this policy.

Information that we collect from you through this website

We do not collect any personal data about you through this website unless you fill in an online form.  If you fill in an online form, you consent to us processing and storing your personal information (including sensitive personal data where you have volunteered for it) for the purpose of providing CABA's services to you.  We may also use the information for CABA's research and development purposes.  CABA has very limited access to parts of the membership database of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and we may combine that basic information with the information you give us, so that we can facilitate and improve our services.  CABA will not pass on any personal data to a third party unless you give us your express consent or we are under a legal obligation to do so.

Keeping your data secure

We employ physical, organizational and systemic security measures to protect information about you from being accessed by unauthorised persons and against unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction and damage.  We will retain your information only for as long as we need to do so and will destroy obsolete information in a secure manner. 

Information on behalf of other individuals

If you give us information on behalf of someone else, you confirm that the other person has appointed you to act on their behalf and has agreed that you can:

  • Give consent on their behalf to the processing of their personal data;
  • Receive on their behalf any data protection notices;
  • Give consent to transfer of their personal data abroad;
  • Give consent to the processing of their sensitive personal data.

Accessing and updating

You are entitled to see the information CABA holds about you and you may ask us to make any necessary changes to ensure that it is accurate and kept up to date.  If you wish to do this, please contact us using the contact details below.  We are entitled under the Data Protection Act 1998 to charge a statutory fee towards our costs in providing you with a copy of the information we hold about you.  Our Data Protection Officer would be happy to speak with you by telephone initially, if you wish.

Any changes to our Data Security Policy will be posted on this website.  This policy was posted to our website on 10 June 2009.
